It’s time for a new chapter in my life. I have left Liquid Web after just more than three and a half years. It’s been a ride, that’s for sure. Mistakes have been made and lessons learned. Not sure how many levels I’ve gone up, but I have tons more experience now. Probably at least a lvl 23 sysadmin with +5 charisma and +6 intelligence at this point.
After all the changes, hurdles, and pushback since the company was sold, I’m honestly not too torn up about leaving. I’m at that point in my life where I’m trying to get settled down so we can get a house, have kids, all that fun stuff. But being with a company going through the growing pains that they are, I couldn’t continue on. I will definitely miss my people who are scattered amongst all three shifts now, but my stress level is going to go down and I’ll be in a better place.
I do have to thank Liquid Web for all I was able to learn and experience during my time. Many things that occurred really forced me to grow up. Customers with server issues causing them major revenue loss, being put in charge of my shift’s new hire class and their development, and speaking with executives providing input on changes. Honestly never thought that I would have done those things, much less done them well.
I’m also really looking forward to getting out of Michigan and into Texas. Yes, there’s more weather to be concerned about and even more critters I don’t like, but I’m ready for a change. Moving every few years is what happened when I was younger, all due to various reasons. Even during college and when I first moved to Lansing, yearly moves. By the time our lease is up though we’ll have been in the same place for two years, which is the longest I’ve been in one place since highschool (>10 years ago). Being in one area for 4 years is just weird for me. And I really want to experience more. Do it while I can, right?
I’m going to be the farthest from all my family that I’ve ever been. I’m not going to be able to just pack up for the weekend and go visit. That will honestly be the hardest part of going down there. But I’ve already been told by many that they’re going to visit. Huzzah!!
I think that’s about it for now. More updates to come!
