I think mother nature is testing me to make sure I can hack it down here in Texas. First, we had the eclipse, which wasn’t an issue or anything, and not too visible down here in Houston. Then, at the end of the week, Hurricane Harvey. We ended up getting let go early on Friday so people could get home before the craziness hit. Luckily I’m staying in the hotel right next door so I didn’t have much of a walk, as well the hotel is, for the most part, fairly safe.

The past couple days have been rather boring since I’ve sitting in my room watching TV, being on the computer, and that’s it. Had this mega storm not occurred, I’d have checked out downtown or wherever. I ended up getting tired really early yesterday, somewhere between 6 and 7 PM, ended up sleeping til about 8 AM. That’s how bored I was. Oh yeah, don’t forget that I’m an hour behind you right now.

Because I wasn’t sure what to expect regarding the weather, before I went to sleep at all, I packed my bags just in case I got woken up saying I had to leave. Thank goodness that hasn’t happened. The bayou next door has given me some worry, but I think we’re good, for the time being at least. Here’s the first video I took on Friday before things got super crazy:

And here’s a video I took just earlier today:

When I checked just an hour or two ago, there was a gap between the top of the water and the bottom of the bridge (which is better than no gap):

The rain has been off and on so I think that’s been helping too. But we aren’t out of the woods yet. This is supposed to continue til/through Thursday. I’m supposed to leave Friday. Let’s hope that happens!!

Otherwise, I’m loving it down here. Houston is a great area, had a few rides through Lyft and everyone is super friendly. Went to Karbach Brewing Co. last Monday, freaking awesome! Great beer, food, and atmosphere. Extra usable grain they have left over from the brewing process goes right back into the kitchen for a couple different items. If I remember correctly, it goes towards their pizza and flatbreads. I ended up getting their curried beef mac and cheese:

The mac and cheese was “county fair style”, which apparently means thin sauce rather than your typical thicker sauce. I legit thought about ordering a second helping to take home with me. Their beer was quite tasty too:

I had 4 IPAs and 1 Porter, the latter was barrel aged which made it Imperial. Great colors and taste all around. I wish I had kept notes to provide, but I did not. This is definitely going to be a repeat visit.

As I’ve been telling everyone, I’m safe and in a good spot right now, but if shit goes sideways, I’ll let y’all know as soon as I am able. Work is keeping the building closed tomorrow, so I won’t be at work. If anyone wants to call, text, video chat, whatever, please do! This’ll be day 3 sitting in my room doing next to nothing.
